GUINEA ELECTION UPDATE: Time to Play Hardball
Two major events took place late today, both involving the Diallo campaign:
-The Diallo campaign announced that it will not accept election results if they are announced Sunday night or Monday. The reason for this, of course, is that results announced this early will not reflect investigation of the numerous instances of fraud by the Conde campaign. Therefore, the Diallo campaign would consider any results presented today or tomorrow to be invalid.
-The second Diallo announcement concerns the UFDG’s decision to withdraw participation from the vote counting process. The campaign made this decision because of the discovery of fraud in at least 3 of the 56 electoral districts.
In addition, according to sources, many Guineans of the Soussou ethnic group hit the streets today to protest that their vote was stolen. They are referring to the Conde campaign fraud in which Soussou votes, originally cast for Diallo, were switched to Conde.
