Presidential Guard Beat the Head of One of Guinea’s Human Rights Group, Breaking His Arm
Today, the president of a Guinean human rights organizationl, l’Observatoire National des Droits de l’Homme (ONDH), Mamadou Aliou Barry, was beaten by members of the presidential guard. Barry was driving when he was stopped by military men and taken to a nearby gendarmerie post in nearby Hamdallaye, a neighborhood of Conakry. He suffered a broken arm and multiple contusions. The photo below was taken of Barry at the hospital after the attack. It appears that it was his left arm that was broken.
Remember the presidential guard is the Guinean security force unit that committed the massacre and rapes on Bloody Monday, September 28, 2009. It is obvious that state-sponsored aggression against the population will increase. The people of Guinea need protection from their own government. The international community needs to step up now.
