BREAKING: Lounceny Camara, VP of Guinea Electoral Commission, Sentenced to a Year in Prison

Today, a judge in Conakry handed down a sentence of one year to Lounceny Camara for his fraudulent vote rigging activities during the first round of the 2010 Guinean presidential election. The Alliance of Celou Dalein Diallo for President recentlly lodged a complaint against Camara as he sought to fraudulently become the President of the commission. The primary charge is that Camara confiscated the tallies of 109 voting stations in Conakry — areas of strong for support for Diallo — and likely cost Diallo a win in the first round.
In addition, to a year in prison, Camara must pay a fine of 2 million Guinean francs, lose the right to exercise his civil rights, and pay a symbolic amount in damages to Diallo.
