CONAKRY July 28 (Reuters) – Cellou Dallein Diallo, who came first in the first round of Guinea’s presidential election in June, has secured the backing of third-placed Sidya Toure for the second round of voting, sources in Diallo’s party said on Wednesday.
Toure secured 13.62 percent of the vote in the first round of voting, and sources in Diallo’s party said that, should Diallo win, Toure had been promised the post of prime minister and 30 percent of cabinet jobs in return for his support.
Diallo won 43.69 percent in the poll, falling short of an absolute majority, and will face second-placed Alpha Conde in a run-off to see who will run the world’s top bauxite exporter. No date has been set for the poll yet.
