West Africa: Ecowas to Dispatch 200 Election Observers to Conakry

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is in the process of dispatching 200 Election Observers to Guinea Conakry in next few days time.
The presidential elections in Guinea have been scheduled to be held on June 27, 2010. This election is in line with the responsibility of ECOWAS to assist member states in the organisation of elections. “It is my pleasure to inform you that I intend to dispatch an ECOWAS mission in Guinea to observe the elections” said his Excellency James Victor GBEHO, President of the Commission.
“The Mission will be composed of two hundred (200) persons, including member states’ representatives, electoral commissions, ECOWAS parliament, civil society, ECOWAS Members of council of wise, the ECOWAS court of Justice as well as experts from the region” he stated. According to the letter dispatched from the commission, the mission will be supported by technical team of the ECOWAS commission responsible for operational coordination and logistics.
