To me, no surprise! The Guineans living abroad are not active enough to let the international public opinion know what's going on in Guinea. The international community which is in fact the USA and the EU as far as Guinea is concerned can only be counter by their public opinion. What, as Guineans, are we doing to publicize all the human rights violations in Guinea? The bare minimum, to me! One march every year then nothing after is merely not enough!
In short, the Guineans abroad are giving Alpha Conde a soft ride by being so complacent.
Anyway, I am far from being optimistic: a weak opposition without a sound strategy and resigned Guineans; Guinea is cursed!

Phony condolences coming from Alpha Conde, the Guinean president after his militia shot a peaceful demonstrator, once again!
People may wonder why or how come he seems all of a sudden to care?
The answer is simple for anyone who follows closely the guinean politics: a French NGO called Anticor with some Guineans individuals decided to prosecute Mr Alpha Condé as a French citizen in Paris for crimes against humanity committed in Guinea –the French laws allow to do so for its citizens- and ask the Attorney in Paris to press charges before the ICC.
Alpha Conde who is cruel but not stupid realized that he must redeem himself by pretending now that he has nothing to do with his militia’s murders. He may fool the Westerners, some of them, but not us!
However, we are not stupid either. We will prosecute Alpha Condé no matter what, soon or later!

US silence is two fold: 1) Guinea is in France's domain, France put Conde in the presidency, and the US will keep its mouth shut altogether unless France wants an assist. But, as we see today, by the State Dept. report on human rights in Guinea and the US ambassador's statement about elections, something is up. The US' only fear is that there will be a coup and Guinea's 50,000 soldier military will take over. Until today, the US has laid low about calling out Conde on human rights abuses because, as long as the blood isn't running like a river in the streets, they can still get business done. Let's see what the coming days and weeks bring.

To me, hitting the streets is not enough now, the Guinean opposition backed by their militants must challenge the International community, mainly represented in Guinea by the UE and the USA. They are willing to condone electoral frauds as long as they can do business peacefully in the country. The problem is that the US and the EU are once again mistaken. Without free and fair elections (the same way in the US and in the EU) there will be only social unrest ; therefore no good business for them and more mayhem that will cost much more to the international community.
Free and fair election should be universal and a Human rights! The US and the EU representatives behave in Guinea as though it is not important in Guinea the way elections are held. Why? Has the lobbying of some former British PM and a famous American tycoon something to do with that peculiar attitude? However, we must admit the opposition too lacks political know-how.

You are so right! If you watch the RTG coverage of Conde's "self-attack," it reveals all: a rogue state with ethnocentrism at its core. As you have recommended, the US and EU would be well-advised to watch the proceedings of this kangaroo court.

Anyone who does not know yet Alifa Condé should watch on the RTG (Guinean TV) the so-called trial on his “self-attack” on July 19, 2011. That looks like a political plot engineered in order to crush the opposition.
The USA and the EU should watch closer and analyze the facts and think if they want to support such a regime capable of self-inflicted attack for a political ploy against the opposition. The awkward aim was to silence definitely the opposition and set a dictatorship.
